Specification Change Notice

Since firmware version 4.10, some functions' operation specifications are significantly different from firmware version 3.10 or earlier. Read the detailed information below carefully before you start using the unit.

• Directory paths for shared folders have been changed.

• Available folders for backup source and destination have been changed.

• Available number of users has been limited but performance has become stabilized.

• Renaming becomes more simple.

Directory paths for shared folders have been changed.

V. 3.10 or Earlier
V. 4.10 or Later

Previously, users had to specify the directory within which to create a shared folder. Also, users had to step through some pages to configure a created folder as a shared folder. In firmware version 4.10, users don't need to specify the directory, only choose either a drive or a RAID array, and configure it in the same window.

Due to this change, all backup jobs that were created on firmware version 3.10 or earlier have been deleted. Data on the unit remains. Create backup jobs again first.

Available folders for backup source and destination have been changed.

V. 3.10 or Earlier
V. 4.10 or Later

Operation When User Is Deleted
The username folder remains.
The username folder and data in it are both
erased
.

In firmware version 3.10 or earlier, a large number of users was supported but unexpected behavior also occurred frequently on the unit. In firmware version 4.10, the maximum number of supported users is reduced but unit performance has improved and is much more stable.

Notes:
• Since firmware version 4.10, username folders will be
removed along with any data held within when
the user is deleted. Please be aware of data in their folders when deleting users. Backing up any important data to another folder is recommended.
• If you have already created 300 or more users on the firmware version 3.10 or earlier and update to version 4.10, users from number 301 and beyond will be removed. The username folders of erased users will be moved under a "_not_convert_user" folder.

Renaming becomes more simple.

To change a folder name in the previous firmware version, users had to take two actions, both on the "SHARED" and "My LinkStation" pages. In firmware version 4.10, the renaming process will only require one window.
